Culture & History

Cultural activities flourish in Loudoun County and nearby Fairfax and Prince William Counties. You can discover history and art at the Loudoun Museum in Leesburg, the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum in Sterling, and the art galleries in downtown Leesburg. Wolf Trap National Park in Vienna and Nissan Pavilion in Bristow are wonderful outdoor venues for enjoying concerts and other musical presentations.

In nearby Washington, DC, the world-class museums of our nation's capital feature some of the finest collections anywhere. For theater, dance, and concert performances, The Kennedy Center on the Potomac River and downtown's theater district with the Warner Theater, National Theater, and historic Ford's Theater (to name a few) offer a wonderful array of entertainment. Downtown's Verizon Center is a popular venue for national league sports teams — the Washington Wizards (basketball) and the Washington Capitals (hockey) — and concerts by top vocalists and entertainers. RFK Stadium is home to the Washington Nationals (baseball) and champion DC United (soccer). FedEx Field, just outside DC, hosts the world championship football team, the Washington Redskins.

Living here also means experiencing the area's wealth of history. Tour a plantation, such as Oatlands in Leesburg or Sully in Chantilly, for a taste of local lifestyle during the Revolutionary era, or visit Manassas National Battlefield Park to honor those who fought during the Civil War. Nearby, historic Leesburg, with its quaint shops, lively promenades, and stately mansions, is a charming reminder of the gracious lifestyle that is the very soul of this great region.

And of course, our nation's capital is home to a fabulous range of cultural activities. You can tour the historic monuments and museums on the Mall museums, browse numerous art galleries, and visit Mt. Vernon to experience life as the first US President, George Washington, lived it at his home on the Potomac River.
